Getting an Industrial Piercing? Read these 10 Tips First!

Industrial Piercing Information

Getting an industrial piercing can be a scary but exciting experience! Get rid of the nerves by preparing yourself with these nine top-notch tips!

#1. Finding the Right Piercer

Finding a piercer is going to be incredibly important and doing your research before the piercing is going to pay off later! The Industrial Piercing consists of two piercings in the upper ear or the cartilage. You might be wondering why it is so important to find a reputable piercer. Since the industrial piercing is two piercings connected by a straight barbell you will need to find a piercer who is experienced in this type of piercing. It is absolutely imperative that the angles of each piercing line up correctly. If the angles of the piercing are off, the barbell will put unnecessary pressure on the tissue of the ear, making for a longer healing process. Take a look at your piercer’s portfolio, they should have pictures of fresh and healed industrials they have performed.

#2. Get something to Eat and Tie your Hair Back!

Before getting a piercing, it is important to have a good meal. It is important that your body is hydrated, and you have a normal blood sugar level. Low blood sugar can make you feel a little dizzy and it can lead to feeling sick, this is not the ideal situation when you are getting pierced! You are also going to want to prepare for the piercing by giving your piercer the optimal space to work on. If you have hair that can get tangled in the piercing it is best if you tie it back. You are going to want to skip any extra hair product to help keep that area clean! Doing these two things are going to help you feel more comfortable as you go into your piercing appointment.

#3. Picking out Jewelry (looking at all your options!)

When you get pierced you are going to pick out jewelry that will be longer than normal because you need to account for the swelling that happens after the piercing. Your piercer can go over the different styles they have available and you can look ahead at other types of jewelry! When your Industrial is healed you will be able to wear a variety of pieces, here are some of our favorites:

The Silver Tree of Life Industrial Barbell: This is a dainty design that is perfect for a healed Industrial piercing! The Tree of life sits in the middle of the barbell and it is ordained with small CZ gems to give your piercing a little extra pop.

The 14G Multi Cluster Steel Industrial Barbell is a great way to add a little flare to your favorite piercing. The middle of the barbell is six cluster CZ gemstones that can be moved to fit your look! This is a simple but pretty way to add sparkle to your favorite piercing.

#4. Go Over the Aftercare Instructions!

After care is going to be extremely important, because this is a piercing that can take longer to heal. You are going to want to clean the piercing with packaged Sterile Saline, which can be found at most pharmacies or grocery stores. If you don’t have access to Sterile Saline you can create a sea salt mixture using non-iodized sea salt. Before cleaning the piercing make sure you have clean hands, use the saline soak twice daily and dry the piercing with a clean, disposable paper towel. During the healing process you will want to avoid sleeping on the side of your new piercing or getting it caught on your hair or clothing. In the very beginning you might notice bleeding, localized swelling, and tenderness, but this should go away fairly quickly. The more you know about what to expect ad how to care for your industrial piercing the better the healing process becomes.

#5. Go over the Piercing Procedure

Your piercer should be able to explain everything they are doing before they do it! Your piercer should walk you through each step as it is happening, letting you know what to expect and when to expect it. Always be aware of your piercers set up and how clean the piercing room is. The first thing that your piercer should do is was his/her hands and put on gloves. This will protect you from any germs or contaminants. Your piercer will mark the location of the piercing and they might even draw a line between the two marks. If you like the alignment of the marks, your piercer will go ahead with the piercing. Most piercers will pierce on hole and insert the jewelry and then pierce the second hole and move the jewelry through the second piercing. They will instruct you on how to sit or lay down during the piercing.

#6. Understand what to Stay Away From!

Every piercing is going to come with its own unique circumstances. The industrial piercing is no exception and you will want to be aware of the healing piercing. Before getting the piercing done you will need to commit to keeping your piercing clean and avoiding things such as: swimming, headphones, sleeping on the piercing, and having makeup or hair product near the piercing. Being proactive is going to save you a lot of hassle in the long run.

#7. Get Rid of the Nerves

It is normal to be a little hesitant, but rather then thinking about what your piercer is doing you can think about all of the amazing jewelry options that will become available to you. Taking your mind off of the piercing process is going to help you relax and the piercing might be a little less painful (since you’re not so focused on it). You are already incredible for getting a new piercing, so why not treat yourself to new jewelry for when it heals?!

The Gold Snake Industrial Barbell is going to match the courage it took to get your new piercing. Each side of the industrial has a brass snake head. This gives the appearance of the body of a snake going through your ear.

You can’t go wrong with the Lotus CZ gold Industrial barbell! This is the industrial bar for new beginnings. The lotus flower represents purity of the body, speech and mind! A lotus blooms out of the mud, just like you have bloomed and grown throughout life.

#8. Don’t Touch your New Piercing!

After getting a new piercing it is going to be difficult not to touch it or fidget with it! By all means go show it off to the world but don’t touch or move it. There is a long-standing myth that you should rotate your piercing after being pierced and during cleaning. This is not factual, and it is false information. The more that the piercing is moved the more you are delaying healing! You are going to want to “baby” your piercing through the entire healing process.

Keep Your Hands off New Piercing

#9. Knowing what to Expect!

Your piercer is going to be one of your best sources of information. They are going to be able to walk you through all of the ups and downs that come with getting and healing a piercing. If you start to notice “bumps” or hypertrophic scaring it is time to go back to your piercer! Stay away from home remedies such as tea tree oil, alcohol, peroxide, and Neosporin. Using these chemicals is going to cause more damage in the long run. If you think that your piercing is starting to look different or it is bruised/swelling more then you initially expected, check in with your piercer! Most piercers are happy to look at a healing piercing (if they performed said piercing). Catching a potential problem in an early stage is going to help your piercing heal successfully.

#10: Enjoy your new Look!

There is nothing better than adding a gorgeous new piercing to express yourself and your inner artist!
